Flying Adventure: Around South Africa – Day 1 (FAWB – FAVB – FAAugra):

Today marks the start of our flying adventure around South Africa.

Take off from Wonderboom airport situated north of Pretoria. We do a few touch and goes in the area on the way to Brits airfield for re-fuelling.

From Brits we head off to the west. A large weather front lies ahead of us and we are forced to fly lower and lower to keep sight of the ground. After an hour in flight scud running to Vryburg we decide to stop for a brief review of the latest weather situation. Our goal is to get to the Augrabies Falls. But for that we somehow have to pass this weather front ahead of us.

We decide to fly along the front and find a spot to break through to the other side.

Flying around some storm cells just to the west of Vryburg we find our gap to break through. After that, it is beautiful clear skies all the way to Upington and over the Kalahari further to Dundi Lodge right off the Augrabies Falls in the Northern Cape.
