Flying Adventure: Around South Africa – Day 2 (FAAugra – FACV – FASH):
We depart from Dundi Lodge on a beautiful morning and climb out over Augrabies Falls and along the river.

From the falls, our route takes us straight over the fascinating landscape of the Karoo. To make it a little more fun, we go into low level flight to inspect the Karoo lamb and ascertain it is healthy and grows tastily.
We opt for a pit stop at Calvinia, NC about half way through to the cape and situated just after the start of the impressive mountain ranges.

Calvinia is not necessarily the place where action was born. But a friendly local chap welcomed us next to the runway on his motorbike for a little chat. Our landing was probably a highlight of the month, if not the year. He saw us off with a heartily: “Safe flight my friends”. They are relaxed people in Calvinia, and certainly open and friendly to some strangers touching down in their usually undisturbed slow routines.
Climbing out from Calvinia to Flight Level 085 so that we safely clear the Cederberg mountains before slowly descending into the cape and finally approaching Stellenbosch, the final destination of the day and probably one of the most beautiful flying clubs on earth.
For the next two nights, we will be staying in the famous cape winelands at Webersberg Estate.
On that last note, watch the movie in the next post to dive into the beauty of the Cape Peninsula.
