Flying Adventure: Namibia Tour – Day 2 (FADundi – FAUP – FYKT – FYGE):
Time to get to Namibia. After all, that’s the country we want to explore on this adventure. And the day could not have been better. Beautiful clear skies and fantastic visibility.
Flight to the Fish River Canyon
We depart from Dundi Lodge for an initial short flight to Upington for re-fueling, customs and immigration.

Formalities at Upington go relatively quick. The Customs official was very proud of a new digital customs declaration process that has recently been introduced. The lengthy exuberant explanation of the system, was by far the longest step in the process to exit South Africa. Unfortunately, it seems digital for the sake of digital, without any time saving or other efficiency gains. At least not from the perspective of the traveler.
Anyway, in good spirits we set off to our second leg to Keetmanshoop, for Namibia’s customs and immigration. That process is not digital, but very smooth. We are soon ready for the last leg of the day to the Fish River Lodge, situated right on the rim of the canyon and with absolutely stunning views.

As we arrive at the Fish River Lodge, there are very strong updrafts at the canyon, which are gusting at a 90 degree angle over the runway. This does not make for an easy landing. After a balked attempt, the second is as smooth as it should be.
Fish River Canyon
The landscape and views from and around the Fish River Loge are mesmerizing. We therefore spend day 3 hiking along the canyon and exploring the area.

The Fish River Canyon is 161 kilometers long, up to 27 kilometers wide and at some places nearly 550 meters deep. These massive dimensions make it the world’s second largest canyon. When you stand or walk along the rim, you are at the edge of eternity, as some say. It is an absolutely stunning and fascinating place. Nature’s raw beauty makes you humble.
