29 September 2023 – Pretoria to Dundi Lodge

Flying Adventure: Namibia Tour – Day 1 (FAWB – FADundi):

It’s a beautiful day to start our adventure to Namibia. New amazing destinations await to be explored. On this first day, we are getting ready to fly westwards to the Northern Cape province of South Africa. We will stay over at Dundi Lodge. Dundi Lodge, situated next to the Augrabies Falls, is a trusted place to stay over on route to the Cape or up north to Namibia.

But things are not really as planned. Our aircraft ZS-DIT is still with the AMO (Aircraft Maintenance Organization) to finish up maintenance works. This is taking much longer than anticipated. To kill the wait we setup ZS-PAG for departure, also a C206 like ZS-DIT. The plan is that ZS-DIT will follow us later and we will swap aircraft tomorrow morning for the onward journey.

Getting ZS-PAG ready for departure

By the time we depart, temperatures have reached peak. Needless to say then, that it’s a bumpy ride out to the dry and hot Karoo. But the scenery and changing landscape is nevertheless rewarding and breathtaking, especially as we approach the mighty Orange River.

As we reach the Augrabies Falls we fly a few scenic loops over the falls and the moon like landscape, and then approach Dundi Lodge.

Dundi Lodge is a fantastic place to stay over or visit the Augrabies Falls. The rooms are great and spacious, the hospitality is top class and so is the food. Everyone enjoys the relaxing late afternoon and we then head of dinner.

Shortly before sunset, ZS-DIT arrives also. We will swap aircraft tomorrow morning and ZS-PAG will return to Pretoria. All is back on track, Namibia can come!
