27 December 2020 – Kimberley to Sun City

Flying Adventure: Winelands Namaqua Karoo – Day 13 (FAKM – FAPN):

We are off to our last destination on this tour. A stay at Sun City for a change.

Kimberley airport is unmanned this morning, which makes it easy and quick to get ready and depart. Airports without frequent scheduled flights are often unmanned during periods where no flights are scheduled to arrive or depart.

We take off from Kimberley in the late morning and climb out over the Big Hole towards Pilanesberg.

Pilanesberg airport is equally deserted and unmanned, which makes the arrival process quick and easy.

Just that our shuttle from Sun City badly let’s us down and stranded, without anyone picking up the phonelines. Really disappointing!

But the South African Police Service is your friend and helper. At least here and today. A very helpful police officer offers us a lift from the airport to Sun City, which we happily accept, and of course also reward.

As this has delayed our arrival somewhat, we decide to extend our stay at Sun City for an additional night. That gives us some more time to relax and prepare ourselves mentally for the end of this flying adventure.

On day 14 in the evening the president of the Republic announces stricter restrictions as the second wave of Covid19 is picking up. Those restrictions include amongst others a ban on the sale and trade of alcohol.

No more beer after midnight. It’s definitely time to go home now…..
